It’s a warm evening in Falmouth on the Cornish coast and there’s a friendly holiday vibe all around this seaside town. This is my happy place. I spent over 10 summers in Cornwall growing up.

We took a late night Aer Lingus flight from Boston to Dublin. We were in front of the Airbus and we sat waiting for a plane that never arrived and when the doors slammed shut, everyone was delighted because we all got two seats to ourselves. The cabin was never lit throughout the night and just had an eerie twilight glow. After landing in Dublin we took a short haul flight to Newquay on the Cornish coast, picked up our rental car, and drove to our accommodation, the Highcliffe Contemporary Bed and Breakfast which we fell in love with last year.

After a much needed nap, we walked around town. Our first stop was Vodafone for a SIM card for my unlocked phone. For $25 I got 20 GB of data which is amazing and good for 30 days. This is way cheaper than it would have been to put an American international cell phone plan on our phone.

Surprisingly there was a small Princess Cruise ship in the harbor. We learned this is the second deepest harbor in the world. When the ship left, the blast from the horn echoed around the town.

Dinner tonight was at The Shack. It’s a fun place down on the harbor that serves everything from pizza to fish and chips. Since it was a warm night, we spent some time strolling around time. We are happy to be back and look forward to a full day of adventure tomorrow.
